About Greg Spence

Hi!

I am Greg Spence, ex-school teacher and just starting out as a children’s author.

I am just starting out on my children’s book writing adventure now. I am nearing the end of my career in digital marketing and have always wanted to write stories for children, but not just any old stories. Ones that help children to grow into emotionally intelligent and well-rounded adults.

I have a firm belief, mainly based on research I have been conducting for the last 15 years, that a lack of emotional intelligence in the populations across the world is contributing to the apparent lack of empathy, care, and understanding we are now witnessing.

Emotional intelligence can instil traits such as empathy and managing one’s emotions, especially if fostered in children from the age of 3 onwards, helping them understand not only the reasons behind their own emotions but also those of others.

My books not only focus on stories that help parents to develop emotional intelligence in their children, but also contain activities and resources to help parents teach their children along the way. Making the stories they read not only entertaining but also involving their children in understanding the meaning behind the story, and teaching one aspect of emotional intelligence that will be important to their development in a fun and interesting way.

I spend a lot of my downtime time reading non-fiction to help me understand more about the psychology of learning and looking to the experts to learn how my stories can help children’s emotional development without it being a chore for either the child or the parents 🙂

Not only will you find details about my books and insights from my ongoing research on this website, I am also posting about what I am currently working on now, in case you are interested. I also post tips and advice on emotional intelligence regularly on Twitter/X to help parents understand the importance of reading to their children and helping them develop valuable lifeskills to turn them into emotionally capable adults.

We won’t change the world, but we can make children’s lives less mentally and emotionally challenging, which over time will help.

Thanks for visiting and reading this page. You can always connect with me on Twitter/X if you are interested in discussing anything or looking for some advice.
